 WAVE 3 Summit – Phase 2 Rollout

We are now moving into Phase 2 of the WAVE 3 Summit rollout. This phase will drill down into the detail of our offer and will engage a broader audience.

If you'd like to be involved, please contact us at businessdevelopment@agored.cymru.

Commercial Offer Relaunch

June marks the relaunch of our commercial offer.

A significant milestone is the establishment of our first Limited Provision Centres, which will initially support centres approved to deliver EPoL (Endorsed Programme of Learning) and QM (Qualty Mark) qualifications only. With these commercial products readily available for those with full centre approval status. Get in touch with businessdevelopment@agored.cymru to find out more.

Delivery Overview Initiative

For the first time, our Delivery Overview will be issued to schools and colleges before the summer break.

This earlier distribution will enable centres operating on an academic calendar to provide indicative learner numbers, cohort sizes, qualification levels and qualification sizes ahead of the new academic year.

The information gathered will provide several key benefits:
Business Development – ensure our messaging around the dates to transition from our current Learning Core over to our Wave 3 products is clear with you and staff in your centres
Centre Support – ensures our centre support team can cross-reference anticipated learner numbers against incoming registrations, helping to identify and resolve discrepancies at an earlier stage.
Quality Assurance – inform the Centre Activity Review (CAR) process and support evidence-based quality monitoring, reducing the need for duplication.

An update from our Quality team

Agored Cymru System Update – Transition to Quartz Web

Agored Cymru will soon be switching off its current web-based functionality. Centres will continue to access all existing applications through a new platform, QuartzWeb, ensuring continuity of service and functionality.

Comprehensive guidance and training materials will be provided to support centres throughout this transition. Please look out for updated centre guides and training packages, which are designed to facilitate a smooth and effective adoption of the new system.

The following key functions will continue to be available via Quartz Web:

  • Qualification approvals
  • EQA report access
  • Centre Action Plans
  • Document uploads
  • Other centre-initiated actions, including:
    •  Reasonable Adjustments
    •  Special Considerations
    •  Conflict of Interest declarations
    •  Malpractice and maladministration notifications
    •  Complaints and appeals notifications

From a quality assurance perspective, you may notice some changes in how information is presented and accessed. However, centres will be fully supported throughout, with a range of resources and assistance available to ensure confidence and consistency in using the new system.

Coming soon: updated Quality Assurance (CASS) guidance

An updated Quality Assurance Awarding Guidance document will be published shortly, alongside supporting website content and an updated qualification risk list.

This update will provide clearer expectations for centres, including a more detailed explanation of minimum sampling requirements and improved definitions of both centre and qualification risk.

As part of our improvements, we will:

  • make sampling proportions consistently and explicitly tied to centre risk categories
  • specify when learner interviews or observations are required
  • trigger visits or unannounced sampling when Centre Annual Reviews are not submitted
  • top centres rejecting requested learner work
  • enforce authenticity statements and additional checks

These changes are intended to improve consistency, transparency, and confidence in quality assurance processes

Plans for 2026-2027

Our approach to cross-centre External Quality Assurance (EQA) and Vocational/Technical Qualification (VTQ) deadlines will be published ahead of the start of the new academic year, ensuring centres have clear guidance and sufficient time to prepare.

A programme of qualification-specific standardisation events will also be scheduled throughout the year. Further details will be shared in due course. Please note that these events are separate from the general standardisation sessions, which will continue to be delivered as usual.

For the latest updates and event information, please visit the Training and Events section of the website.

Coming Soon: Welsh Language Survey

In September 2026, selected centres will receive a survey requesting information on Welsh language provision.

The survey will ask for:

  • The number of learners who wished to undertake qualifications through the medium of Welsh
  • The number of learners who actually completed their qualifications through the medium of Welsh

Centres will also be asked to provide an impact analysis based on this data.

This information is being collected on behalf of Qualifications Wales, and your cooperation is greatly appreciated.

  • Learners’ Preferred Assessment Language at the point of registration
  • Learners’ Actual Assessment Language at the point of claiming

Maintaining accurate records in these areas remains an essential requirement.

Policy and Procedure updates

A number of policies have been reviewed and updated since the last bulletin.

These include:

  • Quality Assurance Awarding Policy (formerly the CASS Policy)
  • Self-Assessment and Quality Improvement Policy
  • Welsh Language Policy (External)
  • Malpractice and Maladministration Policy
  • Complaints Policy and Procedure

Centres are encouraged to review the latest versions to ensure continued compliance and awareness of any updates. They can be accessed here alongside other key documents, including:

  • Retention of Assessment and IQA Materials Policy and Procedure
  • Plagiarism Policy and Procedure
  • External Assessment Policy

Other centre facing guides are also available here along with important supporting information such as:

  • Service standards
  • Centre requirements and responsibilities
  • Welsh medium qualifications policy statement

Centres are encouraged to review these resources to ensure they remain informed and compliant with current requirements.
