- The Personal Project
The Personal Project is a qualification where learners choose something that matters to them and develop it into a structured project.
Their project could be based on an interest, a question, a challenge, a future goal, or something they want to explore in more depth. As they work through it, they'll plan their ideas, carry out research, create an outcome, and reflect on what they have learned.
What is it?
With the Personal Project, learners can:
Explore something meaningful to them
Build useful skills for school, work, and life.
Work more independently
Create something original and purposeful
Grow in confidence as they go
The project journey:
Choose an idea
Learners will pick a topic, question or challenge that interests them. They'll set a clear aim and decide what success will look like.
Plan and research
Learners will plan their steps, decide what resources they need, and gather information from useful sources.
Create an outcome
Learners will produce an outcome linked to their project. This could be written, digital, practical or creative, depending on their idea and audience.
Review and reflect
Learners will look back at what they achieved, explain the decisions they made, and think about what they learned.
What could a project be?
A learner's project could involve:
- investigating a topic or issue
- designing or making something
- creating a digital or creative outcome
- exploring an idea linked to their future plans
Teachers should ensure that the learner's idea is suitable and manageable.
Skills learners will develop
Planning and organising: Setting goals, managing their time and keeping their project on track.
Critical thinking and problem-solving: Researching, questioning information, spotting patterns and making decisions based on evidence.
Creativity and innovation: Developing ideas, trying approaches and producing an original outcome.
Personal effectiveness: Working independently, responding to feedback and reflecting on their progress.
How are learners assessed?
Learners are assessed across the entire project, not just the final outcome.
This includes their planning, research, analysis, development of the outcome, and reflection.
Assessment takes place at key stages throughout the project, so it is important to support learners in staying on track and maintaining a clear record of their progress.
Please note: all work must be learner's own. Some assessed components must be completed under supervision, and the use of AI is not permitted in these tasks.

Overview
Wave 3 Summits - Phase 2
This autumn, our Business Development team will be back on the road, working with centres across Wales as part of Phase 2 of our Wave 3 Summits.
Phase 2 will focus on the practicalities of delivering the Wave 3 suite, including teaching and learning, curriculum planning, timetabling, available resources, and the support available from Agored Cymru.
